Art Gone Wild at Zoo Atlanta!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to prepare for next week’s paint out at Zoo Atlanta by walking through the zoo to “find my muse.”  I had such fun checking out the new reptile/amphibian building: the Scaly, Slimy Spectacular!  I spotted the usual elephant, lions, gorillas (of course, Willie B’s statue), flamingos, warthogs, meerkats, zebras, orangutans, panda, and more.  It started raining, so many animals were hiding out inside, but I got a look at the new clouded leopard next to the tiger.  It was a wonderful, if wet, afternoon!

The paint out week is June 1-5, 8:30-5:30 (although, I doubt I’ll arrive as early as that!).  There are 37 artists participating, all of different styles and medium (one of my favorites is a sculptor who recreates the animals in clay – beautiful)!  We don’t have a set place to paint, so it’ll be a bit of a scavenger hunt to find the artists each day.  Usually, we’re pretty easy to find.  The following week you can see the finished artwork.  There is a meet and greet with the artists at the W Atlanta Downtown on June 9, 6:30-8:30pm.  The big event is Saturday, June 13, 6-9pm at the zoo: Art Show and Silent Auction!
