I painted this painting of an elephant at the zoo during their plein air week, Art Gone Wild, the first week in June. They have two elephants, but are soon planning to expand their enclosure to add an additional elephant. This one is Tara, as you can tell by the notch in her ear. I really wanted to capture the elephants, but every time I walked by, they weren't outside! So, I waited until late in the afternoon when their keepers were cleaning their enclosure and prepping it with food. I was in the perfect position for their return as they happily ate and enjoyed being cooled off in the water!
